Try this on for size:

"Oh you ran a marathon, that's cute!"

That's the t-shirt 50 and 100 mile runners are wearing these days, because, yes, most anyone can finish a marathon!

But running a marathon and competing in a marathon are 2 very different things. Those who train to qualify for Boston or those elite marathoners, now that is something not everyone can do. Those that are training to compete do like you like: we hold static exercises until we fall down because they make our running legs stronger, and we swim and swim and swim because swimming helps us recover from long runs and we find things to do that increase our mental outlook, like jumping out of an airplane.

Now shooting a pistol??? That's funny! You should do the biathlon :) Shoot a gun while breathing hard from running! Now that could be fun! Or who knows, because life isn't static, it is always changing, maybe one day you will wake up and decide you need to conquer the marathon too.

Haha, not scientific by any means, but it was written about here: http://yourdailythread.com/2010/02/01/we-run-green-do-you/, it's #6 on this girl's list: http://nicoleisbetter.com/the-list, this guy talks about his life changes: http://zenhabits.net/2007/02/my-story/, your own favorite is obsessed with them: http://kristinluna.com/about.htm & http://camelsandchocolate.com/about/, and so many more...

I guess I just felt bombarded by the "I ran a marathon" or "I want to run a marathon/am training for a marathon" talk that I came across in the past month or so.
