Just enough exercise

Sometimes people do the silliest things. When I was at the airport a few weeks back, I noticed this guy putting his suitcase on the escalator, then rushing down the stairs to meet it at the bottom. Apparently taking the suitcase down the stairs was too much exercise for him and taking the escalator himself was too little exercise (or something like that).

I got a brief feeling of empty nester syndrome today, as I dropped off our visitors at the airport. It was a whirlwind of taking out the luggage, trying not to get run over by traffic, and waving goodbye. In just a few seconds, I was back in the car and they were off into the airport. As I pulled away, I suddenly felt a little lonely. There were no more guests to drive around town, no more big meals, no more chatter. I’ve always lived a pretty quiet and solitary life, even when my parents were in the same house. This flurry of activity is a rare occurrence and it was rather fun to have a change of pace from my usual daily patterns.

I’m pretty pooped though, so I’m off to rest with my adorable kitty! Just look at her. 🙂

Airports

Well, my mom missed a connecting flight today, so I decided to share some videos from when I was sitting around at an airport in Thailand…

First, the retracting of the bridge when all the passengers are loaded:

The plane, unable to back up itself, gets pushed by a pushback tractor (I believe that’s the correct term).

The next plane comes along and the bridge slowly seals itself against the side.

Our luggage is loaded and soon we get to boarding to start the process all over again, for anyone still sitting there to watch.
