Fabletics Norwalk Tank + Kingston Sweatshirt review

While browsing the Fabletics site looking for free outfits to claim with the credit I earned, I also happened upon some tops I really liked. Ultimately, I decided to spring for them. I certainly didn’t want to regret missing out on items I’d be pining for months down the line. 😛

Fabletics is just under $50 per outfit credit and comes with a 2- or 3-piece set of athletic wear. Each month, three outfits are selected for you to choose from at the 1 outfit credit price point. You can always get other outfits at their VIP pricing of $50-80 (2- and 3- pieces available) or buy any individual item separately. Outfits are sent monthly unless you choose to skip (which is very easy to do). They offer a referral program that earns you money towards free outfits.

Get your first outfit for half off with my referral link! All fitted Fabletics items are chafe-resistant and feature four-way stretch for comfort and movement.

Norwalk Tank in White & Blazing Yellow

This is such a comfy top!! I feel so secure in it because of the built-in sports bra part with pads, yet I have so much freedom to move around because of the loose fit of the rest of it. I’m really enjoying this design that is different from your typical top. It’s so flowy and liberating without compromising on coverage, so I feel good about moving around in it. I love lounging around in this and I’m seriously considering getting the new one they just introduced in purple and gray as well. The retail value for this is listed as $34.95.

Kingston Sweatshirt in White

I love anything that offers nice coverage of my neck, since I feel so much warmer if my neck is warm. This is a nice soft sweatshirt that offers that sort of heat retension where I like it and I like how high the collar comes. With no hoodie to weigh it down, it’s a nice change from sweatshirts I’m used to. You’re protected from zipping your own neck by the nice piece of fabric that also makes folding down the collar a good look. I had to get a size larger since my size was sold out, so it might look a little baggier than you might prefer, but that’s because I was looking for a looser fit. The listed retail value for this is $39.95.

I’m very happy with both these tops and glad I opted for them instead of more outfits. I generally like to change my tops more than my bottoms, so it’s useful to have more of them. I hope there’s an option to swap for two tops in future outfits. Want to get your own? Sign up for Fabletics to get your first outfit for just $25!

Fabletics Outgoing Outfit (Eureka top + Lima Flex Capri) review

I finally earned my first free outfit and I was searching for something to claim when I saw this outfit. I liked the general look and I’ve been wanting a long sleeve shirt for workouts, so I went for it even though I’m not huge on capris. I was really hoping to get one of the long sleeves with a thumb hole, but they were out of my size and now completely out of stock. I figure they won’t be introducing more long sleeve designs until the fall, so this was my chance!

Fabletics is just under $50 per outfit credit and comes with a 2- or 3-piece set of athletic wear. Each month, three outfits are selected for you to choose from at the 1 outfit credit price point. Eureka Top in Bright Aqua

This top turned out to fit kind of strangely. It’s nice at the shoulders, wrists, and hip area, but everywhere else it’s super loose. I even tried steaming the wrinkles out but as you can see, that did little good. I like the seams along the arm that are mostly hidden when your arms are by your side and the funky V shape in the back, but the material is so-so and this color is somewhat see-through (maybe it’s meant to be?). I’d wear it if was my only long sleeve, but I think I can do better so I’m returning it. I do hope I find another top in a similar color! Its retail value is listed as $34.95.

collage of front, back, and hidden pocket of fabletics lima flex capri in dark grey

Lima Flex Capri in Dark Grey

I actually really like the fit of this capri! Perhaps it’s because it’s medium compression instead of maximum (as with the Lima capri from another outfit), so my legs don’t feel so constricted. I also love the grey color, which is different enough from black yet still works with most colors. I do wish Fabletics offered bottoms that are low rise, since I don’t care for ones that nearly cover my belly button. I like these things sitting right on my hips, but once they’re on I generally forget how high they go. This was great to lounge around in on a summer night and I didn’t feel like my circulation was getting cut off as with most capris. The retail value on this is listed as $39.95.

While the top just doesn’t work for me, I’m loving the capris, surprisingly. I’m going to try again when it comes to a long sleeve top and definitely try to hold out for a design that incorporates those thumb holes I want! If you like what you see, sign up for Fabletics and get this first outfit for $25 before it’s sold out forever!!

Fabletics Portico Outfit (Aventura poncho + Salar legging + headband) review

It had been awhile since I’d gotten Fabletics so I decided to take a look. I knew I was interested in some sort of outerwear, like a casual sweatshirt. When I came across, the Aventura poncho, I couldn’t resist. I was going to get it alone originally, but didn’t want to pay shipping so I decided to spring for the whole outfit. I’m really glad I did since the leggings turned out to be my new favorite pair!

Aventura Poncho in Charcoal Heather

This is such a fun piece to have. I like how it just drapes over your shoulders and provides warmth over any top. The terrycloth fabric makes it nice and warm and the generous hoodie size makes it easy to cover your head completely even with a ponytail. Snap buttons on either side ensure your warms stay in place, or unsnap them for a flowier fit. I like to half unzip the half-zip front, but find that the weight of the hood will often drag the zipper up towards my neck. I wish the front was weighted a little more so I didn’t feel my throat getting covered all the time, but otherwise I love it. The retail value on this is listed as $44.95.

Salar Legging in Flame Orange

These leggings were absolutely worth it and the most comfortable pair I own! I was surprised because I wasn’t even going to get it in the first place, thinking it was more of a cloth-like texture based on the pictures. Turns out it’s far more silky smooth (blend of polyester and spandex) and oh so soft. The color is fantastic too! As with all the other leggings, you get a little secret pocket for a key or card. They offer maximum support, for a nice firm fit. Retail value’s listed as $49.95.

collage of top, side, and details of fabletics headband in ultra lemon

Headband in Ultra Lemon

The headband in this outfit was really just an extra item to me. I don’t usually use headbands, except when washing my face. I wanted the color that matched the leggings, but of course they were sold out so I ended up with these, which happen to match the first sports bra I got. It holds well even on my slippery hair and I’ll certainly keep it around for when I do decide to use a headband. Its retail value is listed as $4.95.

I’m pleased with this outfit, though I would have loved to have gotten it at the $50 price point (it cost me close to $70). Still, if I count both top and bottom at $35 a piece, not even factoring in the headband, I think it was a good value. Not great, but good, especially for the unique items I got and how much I’m enjoying them. I even got complimented on my style when I wore the poncho with the leggings last week! Thanks Fabletics for making me appear fashionable. 😉

I’m really excited now because I’ve officially earned enough points to get a free outfit credit! Nothing caught my eye this month, but I’m really looking forward to redeeming that free outfit soon…

365great Day 357: jackets

365great day 357: jacketsOne of the most useful items of clothing I own are jackets. I have light ones, heavy ones, thin ones, thick ones, loose ones, tight ones, cotton ones, faux leather ones, long ones, short ones, and just about everything in between. I find they are immensely useful for layering so I’m never too cold (and I get cold easily). Depending on the style, I can go super casual or dressy with them, for any situation and occasion. In the winter, I always wear at least two of them so I can bundle up against the cold as needed. In China, I’ve noticed a much more uniform look in terms of outerwear, which might be because they actually have to spend time walking in the cold. In the US you can get away with a lot more variety since you generally just need to get from your car into a building and vice versa. Or maybe there are just fewer styles available in China. I like to wear a nice pea coat on the outside, which looks professional, is long enough to keep my backside warm without riding up, and offers flexibility in how fitting or loose I want it. They’re great for warding off the cold!

Fabletics Sashay Outfit (Versital T top + Lille sports bra + Mahe running shorts) review

Once again it was the sports bra that drew me in for this outfit. I actually saw it in the white and peoni in an email, liked the shape, and was thrilled to find it came in black and purple (or sage, as they call it). Before I even looked at the February outfits that had been picked out for my profile, I came across this Sashay outfit and wanted it. Not only did it have the sports bra I wanted, each piece has my favorite color. Imagine my surprise when it was one of the three outfits chosen for me to pick from that month! I just had to get it.

Fabletics is just under $50 per outfit credit and comes with a 2- or 3-piece set of athletic wear. Each month, three outfits are selected for you to choose from at the 1 outfit credit price point. Mahe Run Short in Purple Sage

Let’s start with the bottoms this time! I like these running shorts because they have the built-in brief short liner. That way, when the outer layer hikes up, you have an inner layer that stays put. These are a loose fit and have a comfortable waistband with drawstring. There’s a tiny little hidden pocket for a key – I don’t think an ID card would fit. Retail value for this pair is listed as $29.95.

Compared to the Lorida V-Neck from my last outfit, this shirt is much more lightweight and thin. It’s a very relaxed fit super breathable. The material is slightly see-through at times (so make sure you wear a cute sports bra underneath!). It’s nice and long the way I like it – I hate having shirts that leave a gap around your midsection. Its retail value is listed as $19.95.

collage of front and back of fabletics lille sports bra in black and purple sage

Lille Sports Bra in Black (and Purple Sage)

The Lille sports bra is much more supportive than many of the other designs Fabletics offers. It even offers removable cups for full coverage. I like the contrast of mesh against the plain background and the double set of straps. This one is great to wear on its own since it has cups and you don’t have to worry about anything showing. The retail value on this is listed as $24.95.

I love this little running outfit even though I don’t really like running. I’ve used the tops for my weight training and I’ll incorporate the shorts too once it warms up again. I absolutely love the whole black and purple theme of it.

Fabletics Emanate Outfit (Lorida v-neck top + Vaasa sports bra + Lima capri) + Asaro legging review

So a long time ago I meant to review the outfit that Panda got for me, but when I was finally getting around to it I realized I didn’t have the right bottoms. I had him contact Fabletics and they sent the correct ones, so now I have both to compare. I think I’m just going to have to send the capris back since I ultimately like the leggings more. I chose this outfit because of the fun sports bra, which was such a unique design. I went bold with bright lime green on my tops!

One thing to note – according to the order, this is the Emanate outfit, but I also found the Elevate outfit that is the exact same… so I think they changed the name from Emanate to Elevate.

Fabletics is just under $50 per outfit credit and comes with a 2- or 3-piece set of athletic wear. Each month, three outfits are selected for you to choose from at the 1 outfit credit price point. Lorida V-Neck Top in Ultra Lemon Heather

Oh what a soooft top! Buttery soft? Absolutely. It’s wonderfully smooth and feels fantastic. It is moisture-wicking to keep you dry from perspiration. It does hike up on the shoulders if you’re lifting your arms a lot in your workout. Retail value on this is listed as $29.95.

collage of front and back of fabletics vaasa sports bra in ultra lemon

Vaasa Sport Bra in Ultra Lemon

This sports bra provides medium bust support and does not have extra padding. It is super lightweight and fits snugly. I just love the criss-cross straps that keep it secure on your back. Its retail value is listed as $19.95.

collage of front, back, and hidden pocket of fabletics lima capri in black

Lima Capri in Black

These are the capris I was supposed to receive. I found that I’m not that into capris since my feet get cold easily. I also have thick legs so they’re kind of tight on my calves and I don’t feel like I get enough circulation. These offer maximum support, which explains why they’re pretty tight. As with all the other Fabletics bottoms I’ve seen, they include a hidden pocket on the right hip. Retail value is listed as $39.95.

collage of front, length, and hidden pocket of fabletics asaro legging in black

Asaro Legging in Black

And these are the leggings that originally came with my outfit. I didn’t even realize they were the wrong product until I was coming to review them for a post! Turns out I like them better, so I plan on keeping these in lieu of the capris. As you can see these go the opposite way and are super long. I like the random seam that wraps around the leg. It offers medium support so it’s more comfortable for me. The retail value on these are listed as $49.95.

Funny how I ended up liking the mistaken product more than the intended one, eh? The Asaro legging is more silky feeling than the Nadi legging I got in my first outfit, which is more cotton-y. I love how long the legs are and I love the comfort of the Lorida shirt. I tend to prefer v-necks and it’s long enough that I don’t have to worry when I lift my arms. And the whole reason I wanted this outfit in the first place was that super cool sports bra! I can’t remember the last time I owned a sports bra, so it’s fantastic to have one for working out in.

365great Day 342: boutiques

365great day 342: boutiquesI’ve been shying away from most large chains when I shop. Nowadays with all the shops on the internet, it’s super easy to find sweet little boutiques selling much more unique items for good prices. I’ve come across quite a few and even follow these two on Instagram – on the left is a necklace from Stone Rush Jewelry and on the right is a shirt from Hazel & Olive Boutique. I also recently bought a necklace on sale from Cents of Style. It’s a lot more fun shopping these e-stores than going out to your typical big box store. I find the selection far more intriguing, with personality and flair. It’s much more fitting to my preferences and a far more comfortable shopping experience. I’m glad I’ve stumbled across these brands because they offer some great products!

December Favorites 2013

collage of december 2013 favorites including home ownership, vitabath lotion, julep, wrapp deals, sweaters, reading, wireless mouse, red lips, cat time, and snowI nearly forgot to get this together before the month was over! Oh boy, it’s already time to think about Jan favs and I’m still putting together the Dec ones…

1. home ownership – As of Dec 13th, 2013, we officially became homeowners. The keys were handed to us and since then we’ve been slowly planning the move. Meanwhile, all our neighbors are in and everyone is wondering when we’ll finally get into this condo they keep hearing about. 😛

2. VitaBath lotion – I got this in my Influenster Rose VoxBox in the fall and boy do I love it! I’ve been using it frequently after showers and I absolutely adore the lightly sweet scent that is also cooling and fresh. Even with frequent usage, I’ve barely used up a quarter of it and it’s wonderful how long it’s lasting me.

3. Julep – I finally caved and got Julep when they came out with a mystery box I couldn’t resist. I was totally impressed by it and will definitely get more, plus I’ve subscribed as a Maven to get some new nail polish colors every now and then. I actually really like the beauty products that Julep makes and will use my subscription as a way to explore them.

4. Wrapp deals – When I first found these shoes, I took that picture to remember to look for something similar. Then I got a great Wrapp gift card deal for something like $12 at Charlotte Russe (which cost me and Panda nothing to send to each other) so I ended up getting that exact style of shoe for a fantastic price. I only take advantage of the free offers in the app, which saves me a good amount.

5. sweaters – Well, my first proper winter in over a decade prompted me to go out and buy some sweaters to wear. I was also goaded on by Autumnfall, who laughed when I showed her what I considered to be a sweater, all proud that I finally bought one. I’ve since gotten ones that even she can’t dismiss as not “real” sweaters. 😛

6. reading – For that period when my life was a hot mess of confusion, I escaped into reading again. My childhood was filled with books and it was nice to get back into it. I hadn’t read fiction in many years, whenever that 4th Harry Potter book came out. I was surprised that I blew through the 50 Shades series the way I did (I thought I’d long since lost patience for fiction since it’s not a business book that I can learn a ton from).

7. wireless mouse – The touchpad on my new laptop gets wonky at times (kind of often). Thankfully, a wireless mouse makes it easy to move the mouse around and strains my fingers, hands, and wrists less. I’m rather particular about the feel of the mouse and I’m glad I found this one for my personal use. I even have a blog post drafted for my pickiness when it comes to this and what I look for in the perfect mouse.

8. red lips – I went through a few weeks when I experimented with bright red lips. It was fun, bold, and playful. I even tried making lip prints like this one on Panda’s cheek. Prior to getting that red lip crayon in my November Ipsy bag, I probably only used red lipstick twice before. Now I’m much more comfortable with something attention-grabbing like that, but usually only at night, special events, and the weekends. Still not a normal thing for me.

9. cat time – Going home for the holidays and spending time with Missy again was amazing. I can’t wait to settle enough to bring her over here. Having a cat around calms me and gives me something relaxing to do whenever I’m home. There shall be no ennui when I can cuddle with my kitty or play around with her. I absolutely love waking up to a cat on my chest or next to my legs, though I may never want to get up for work (or anything else) again.

10. snow – This was before the intense polar vortex/arctic chill madness. It was exciting to get snow again and get to sit by the window and watch it fall down. I’d be happy to get stranded indoors for a few days from a snowstorm so long as I have heat and food. 🙂

Oops, I left out a picture from frolicking at the beach, but I had a whole blog post on that so you can check them out. Returning to Los Angeles was wonderful and a much-need reprieve from everything else. What did you find to be your favorites in December?

Fabletics Moon Outfit (Leon tank + Nadi leggings) review

laelene Posted in reviews,Tags: , , , , , ,

I recently came across Fabletics by Kate Hudson and JustFab, which is a women’s athletic wear subscription service. Like the subscription boxes I get, you pay to get something delivered to you monthly (though there is always the option to skip!). In this case, they put together outfits for you and you can select from the three chosen for your profile or skip if you don’t like any of them. If you forget to skip, you’ll be charged for the month and you get 1 outfit credit, which you can actually even apply for future months. They’ve got an awesome 50% off deal for the first outfit for new subscribers! That’s as cheap as $25 for a top and bottom set. If you’re interested, you can sign up through my referral link to get in on it!

Fabletics is just under $50 per outfit credit and comes with a 2- or 3-piece set of athletic wear. You can always get any of their outfits at their VIP pricing of $50-80 (2- and 3- pieces available) or buy any individual item separately. Outfits are sent monthly unless you choose to skip (which is very easy to do). They offer a referral program that earns you points towards free outfits.

I signed up and chose the Moon outfit as my first. It’s a Leon Tank paired with a Nadi Legging – nice and simple outfit that works for all the types of exercise I do! I really liked the colors on the Leon Tank in Cerulean/Mint and I’ve needed a proper workout tank and leggings, so this was perfect. All Fabletics clothing is chafe-resistant and offer four-way stretch so you can move easily.

collage of front and back of fabletics leon tank in cerulean and mint

Leon Tank in Cerulean/Mint

This tank has mesh paneling in the back for extra ventilation and is billed to have a “buttery soft” feel – I totally agree! It’s super smooth and soft. The shape in the back allows for your shoulders to move around freely without displacing your shirt. Retail value on this is listed as $24.95.

collage of nadi legging in black with stripe

Nadi Legging in Black/Stripe Hype

The leggings have fun stitching running along them, which I think help them fit your legs more smoothly as you’re moving. Whether or not they’re actually functional, they’re still a fun flourish! I love the little details like the hidden pocket, which I didn’t know about when I went running in the snow that one time. I wouldn’t have had that lost key scare if I’d known! There’s also a little Fabletics logo on the back, which is nice and subtle. Their retail value is listed as $49.95.

I’m happy with this outfit and especially happy about the price I got it at! Normally you’d pay $49.95 for this outfit if you got it any time after your first outfit, which is still an amazing deal. I’ve done yoga and gone running in them and they feel great. I’d definitely recommend trying them!

365great Day 303: tank tops

laelene Posted in 365great,Tags: , , , ,

365great challenge day 303: tank topsI really got into slightly loose, somewhat flowy tank tops over the summer. I used to have more form-fitting ones that work well under a jacket, but now I’ve branched out. My favorite ones have a scoop neck and straps about an inch and a half wide. They can range from tight and form-fitting to loose and flowy and I like them either way! I’ve recently found the form-fitting ones are excellent underneath a sweater. The looser ones are perfect for a balmy summer day, when I don’t want to feel constricted. They’re very casual generally, but you can totally dress them up too. When I was at the Santa Monica Pier, I totally wanted to get this amusing mustache one, among many others, but the price point was higher than I was happy with. I’m still on the lookout for more tanks with a bit of personality! Is it just me or do their designs seem to be more fun? I find the look and feel of tank tops to be great!
