My journey of Lu Han 鹿晗

In February 2022, I started to watch the show Fighter of the Destiny, which had been on my radar for some time. I recalled seeing Lu Han’s profile on MDL in early Feb and not thinking much of it other than reading his profile and wondering why he seemed pretty popular. As I got further into the show, the character he played was intelligent and level-headed in a way that piqued my curiosity.

After finishing the show in early March, I eventually circled back a few days later to look him up and I basically started to stumble across his songs on YouTube. I was curious to hear him sing since his feminine face and reserved, almost timid, demeanor was intriguing. Well, I certainly got to see a different version of him in his music videos! Suddenly I found myself looking at a kid with a little bit of swag and some good dance moves. He still had the baby face and sweet voice, but also some confidence and allure.

There were some pretty funny video clips from a TV show he was on for awhile, Running Man. In one he was paired up with Dilraba and lost a heart rate contest pretty badly haha. In another, he made eating noodles in the wind look about as good as you can.

Eventually, I came across his live concerts and was fascinated by his way too pretty eyes and fun, colorful hair. Out of all the stars who act, sing, and dance, he’s one of the only ones I think is actually really good. There others who are just good, but they don’t hit me the right way and impress me. I don’t particularly like Lu Han’s songs, but I can tell he is actually a really good singer.

The songs that I did end up liking are 勋章 (Medals), which he sang as the theme song for a movie he was in, The Witness, and 我们的明天/Our Tomorrow. There’s one line in 敢 (Roleplay) that I really like — “你瘋了 boy” aka “you’re crazy, boy.” Lol, it’s the fun pacing and blend of languages that makes me appreciate it.

This concert is where he set the world record for “largest gathering of people wearing antlers” lol

At some point, I read that he was sort of like a Chinese version of Bieber, so I took to referring to him as baby Bieber even though he’s actually older haha. But look at him! He looks SO young. He apparently is so popular that he even did a song for Stars Wars, has the most comments on a social media post, and plenty of other accolades.

I find it unique too that he has tattoos, which I don’t generally seem to see Chinese stars having (or maybe they hide it really well). I think tattoos are still pretty taboo in East Asian cultures.

If you’re up for watching a full concert, here’s the one I prefer. I like the way he yells “hey” sometimes haha.

Before I learned more about him and I saw he was engaged to Guan Xiao Tong (Gabrielle), I thought he was pretty lucky. But then after I got to see everything he’s done, I feel like she’s the lucky one now! Other than the show they met on (Sweet Combat), I haven’t really seen them together. He started a vlogging series called “One Day” recently, so I wonder if she’ll make it on there eventually…

So what do you think? Is this kid worth the hype? Do you like his music and/or acting? I’m not a crazy fangirl, but I do appreciate and admire his work and talent.

365great Day 292: entertainment

365great challenge day 292: entertainmentSometimes it’s nice to just sit back and be entertained. Whether it’s a TV show, live performance, or otherwise, all you have to do is enjoy. I don’t often partake in these things, but every now and then I want something rather mindless to occupy my time. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing in the hours leading up to the new year – just chilling out letting the TV shows fill my time and living room. I’d gotten worn out from all the reading and typing I was doing online, but didn’t quite want to sit around in silence. It’s been soothing to experience and exactly what I needed. For those times when you want to consume media, it’s great to let the entertainment take over.

365great challenge day 97: fireworksWhen you see those bright, colorful bursts of light in the night sky, you can’t help but look. Fireworks are beautiful and they can be quite magical to watch. I am fascinated by the shapes, colors, and styles that have been created over the years. How cool is it that they can make shapes like stars, hearts, and smiley faces? Or that they can get those bits of light to race around in the sky, or seemingly float in place? It’s truly amazing and it always brings a smile to my face. People far and wide can enjoy the view as they ooh and aah over the spectacle. Fireworks make for some great entertainment!

365great challenge day 64: spring singTonight is the 68th year since Spring Sing first debuted at UCLA. It is a longstanding Bruin tradition that celebrates performing talent year after year. For the most part, it is a singing competition and it has seen the likes of Maroon 5 (back when they were Kara’s Flowers) and Sara Bareilles. However, to call it merely a singing competition is not fair – no, it’s an entire night of entertainment ranging from musical-style performances to hilarious comedic scenes, plus some judging and award-giving too. You want to see famous people? Check. You want to hear great singing? Check. You want to laugh your pants off? Check. You want to watch skillful dancing? Check. You can get it all in this fantastic event that started back when fraternity brothers would serenade sorority sisters. As for the singing itself, genres range across everything imaginable – a capella, acoustic, pop, rock, indie, soul, and so on. While I didn’t get to attend this time around, I did take advantage of the tanks that were designed and got one for myself! I’ll be wearing it proud over the years, for as the back of the shirt says, Spring Sing is “UCLA’s Greatest Musical Tradition” (and really I’d say it’s one of any university’s greatest).

Climbing trees

Panda and I got to attend the Hale Koa luau while we were in Waikiki, and as the night got underway, we were entertained by this guy climbing a coconut tree.

First he climbed up:

Then he talked about jumping from tree to tree and asked us if we wanted to see:

And finally he came down while trying not to flash anyone:

This reminds me of a song I learned in 5th grade for select choir…
Mama says no play, this is a work day
Up with the bright sun, get all the work done
If you will help me, climb up the tall tree
Shake the papaya down

Shake them down, shake them down
Climb the tall tree shake them down
Shake them down, shake them down
Shake the papaya down

I love papaya, yes I do
Juicy papaya, yes I do
If you will help me I’ll help you
Shake the papaya down

On Sentosa Island, there is a Dolphin Lagoon where I went to watch the pink dolphins perform. Afterwards, I took a picture with Squirt, who only liked girls! 😉

FOX studio

I never knew that FOX had a lot right off Pico until the HOME screening was held there! Check out their lot – there’s always something so staged and fake about these places (in a wonderful Disneyland sort of way).

Who knew that Sound of Music was produced by FOX?! This painting decorated the side of the parking structure and greeted us as we parked.

I saw a few G&E trucks along the way, which made me nostalgic for my Wristcutters* days.

I wonder if any shows I know are filmed here.

palm trees lined up and lit up in the night

They were glowing so beautifully I had to pull over and take a picture before exiting the lot.

*My very first internship was with a production company that made Wristcutters: A Love Story (see my IMDB page). It was crazy hectic and an unforgettable experience.
