These are reviews of the Chinese (and occasional other Asian) dramas I’ve been watching!

[Note: for the names, I generally combine them to differentiate between family/surnames vs given names, or titles. e.g. Dong Hua Di Jun is written as Donghua Dijun so you know that Dong and Hua are always used together in the name and Di and Jun are always used together. You wouldn’t group it differently and call him Dong Hua Di, Hua Di Jun, Hua Di, etc.

If it’s not clear whether there is a surname and the name is only two characters, I separate the names.

With names using 阿, it may be anglicized as A’ or Ah, really just depending on my mood (like A’Li vs Ah Heng). And with names using 儿, I like to anglicize it as ‘er (like Hua’er).

I generally don’t capitalize titles/roles like prince, princess, general, empress, etc. unless I am using that in lieu of their name or I’m using their full title. Sometimes this is because they straight up aren’t named in the show, other than their title. For example, Prince Peng Cheng’s name is Liu Yikang. If I were for reason to refer to him as prince Yikang I wouldn’t capitalize the label with his name. This is similar to if I were to write Prince of Wales is prince Charles. Why do I prefer this format? Don’t really know, but that’s how it is.]
