I got my iPad today!  It was a bit earlier than expected (they had estimated a June 22nd delivery, but based on the tracking I estimated a June 21st delivery).  Instead I got it this morning and happily spent the day letting it sync up with iTunes.  After work, I began to play around with it to see which apps have iPad versions and which ones are still stuck in the iPhone days.  I’ve set just about all the settings I can think of and I’ve begun to organize my apps into folders again.

There’s something really fun about new things – setting them up, exploring them, and personalizing them gives me a great sense of satisfaction.  After spending most of the night fiddling with my gadget, it’s time to call it a night and get some rest.  Tomorrow’s a new day and another chance to find uses for my iPad.  😛

Body Scentsation

three canisters of body scentsations body butterI’ve been obsessed with my newest body products – Body Scentsations body butter.  I found them at Fiesta Hermosa and went for the 3 of the 2-oz size for $15 deal.  As you can see, I got the Acai Berry, Pineapple Pomegranate, and White Ginger.  They had so many great scents and everything is natural and made locally in Ventura.  Pretty cool brand.  I love the way the body butter greases on without actually staying greasy.  It melts with your body temperature and seeps into your skin, making it so soft and smooth.

As they say, a little bit goes a long way, so you’re encouraged to use the body butter sparingly since it is ultra effective.  I love it on my elbows, heels, and around my nails.  Unfortunately, a skin condition I have has flared up, so I keep rubbing it in, but it hasn’t gotten rid of the redness and slight swelling on my fingers.  Other than that, I’ve enjoyed it a lot (currently working on using the Acai one) and it gives me great joy just to get a whiff of it when I open the canister.  Shea butter is supposed to be good with eczema and psoriasis, but whatever I have is neither of those so I don’t know how to treat it.

But anyway, that’s not the point – I’m just really excited to have these new products to enjoy and I can’t wait to start using the other two scents as well.  When I get through these, I’ll probably want to try some of the other fantastic smells that this product line offers.

I’ve never tried Origins before, so I was thrilled to get this free sample. It feels fantastic and has a subtle mint scent to it. Cleansing and refreshing all in one! I also got a small test of the A Perfect World face wash, which feels and smells great too. I’m looking forward to finishing up my current moisturizer so I can try one of theirs. Definitely a convert!

LoveSac PillowSac

examples of various pillowsac usesThis weekend I finally got the LoveSac PillowSac!  I mentioned back in May 2009 that I’ve wanted this thing for ages (about 8 and a half years by now) and now it’s here.  Originally I had wanted a SuperSac, the 6-foot diameter LoveSac, but after my friend lent me his indefinitely, I started to focus more on the PillowSac, which is cool because it is quite versatile.  I like that you can get the Rocker and set it up to be a rocking couch, or lay it out flat to be the size of a full mattress.  In addition, there are the fun shapes like fortune cookie and pea pod.  🙂

I’ve been following the Deals section of the LoveSac site, where they had an entire Fushia Berry Chenille set for $499 (more recently discounted to $399 for Valentine’s Day specials).  I liked this set because it came with the PillowSac and cover, a Rocker, and two throw pillows.  Purple’s my favorite color and I thought this unique pattern would be fun.  However, it’s absolutely tacky and impossible to match with anything, so I held off, not sure about that pattern.  Then, about three weeks ago, the Red Herringsuede one showed up for Valentine’s Day, also at $399, but without the throw pillows.  Now I couldn’t decide between the two.  The purple set had a better deal, but the red set is far easier to put in a room.

So, that’s how I ended up at the LoveSac store with Panda this weekend.  I figured I could take a look at the materials and decide once and for all which one made more sense.  Thank goodness I did too!  I had thought that the Herringsuede is a type of faux suede, but instead it’s actually a herringbone pattern renamed.  After seeing that, I would have rather had another more exciting texture.  Luckily enough, the store had a black Velvish PillowSac cover that it was selling for a discount because this cover was discontinued and it was their last one.  Even more fortunate was that they had an open PillowSac selling for a discount because it was not completely brand new and in the packaging.  The reason for that was it was used in a L’Oreal commercial that Beyoncé shot recently.  Pretty cool, huh?

So when I heard the price of the PillowSac and cover, I was pretty sold, but I wanted the entire set I’d seen online, Rocker and throw pillows too.  I asked the saleslady about that and she was able to offer slight discounts for both.  She had a couple of throw pillows to choose from and I thought the Red Herringsuede would actually be a great contrast on the black.  Having pillows that don’t match the PillowSac itself made things much more lively and exciting, otherwise those pillows sort of blend right in.  In the end, I’d be paying about $27 more at the store for a much more customized set with a cool back story.  And so that is how I ultimately got my new PillowSac set!

DefaultCase: a case of an iPhone case

Many months ago, I came across this new company called DefaultCase, selling their iPhone cases for 1 cent + $3.99 processing.  For $4 each, it was a steal!  You see, rather than spend marketing budget on making all kinds of ads, they put much of it towards offering these cases for super cheap.  From there, I believe they were counting on word of mouth to get their brand going.

I thought about it for awhile and decided to get one for fun, even though I don’t even like phone covers.  They’re pretty cool, with a perforated design on the iPhone 4 models that allow the signal to get through (it’s even supposed to help with your reception, according to them).  I browsed their selection of colors and settled on a blue one.  One thing I noticed is that there are never any shots of a phone from the front when you look at a case.  I happen to want to know how much the lip may or may not protrude on that side.  Nevertheless, I decided it was cheap enough to be worth trying.  When it came, I was very excited.  They have a quirky sense of humor and included a love letter telling me how much they appreciated me for being an early adopter.  Fun times!

When I couldn’t figure out how to get the case off and cracked it trying, I emailed their customer service because part of their mission is to provide excellent support.  They were kind enough to mail me a new one, plus give me a free one of my choice.  This time I chose white.  Awesome, right?  Well, I was also interested in a purple and an orange one, so I asked about that and they said since they accidentally made some of the pink ones more of a purple color, they could send me one of those.  Orange was yet to be added and when it was, they gave me a sample too.  Talk about a deal!

They came through on their promise of great service and it’s something that more companies should strive towards, no matter what product or service they’re providing.

Sore or pain?

acu hoop workout hula hoopI spent 40 minutes last night using my Acu hoop and boy am I sore!  Actually, it’s borderline sore/in pain, I can’t really tell… there are definitely times that my sides get touched and it hurts, but it’s not constantly there and most of the time I forget it hurts.  I shouldn’t have gone so vigorously or so long after not using it for quite awhile now.  Next time I will go for an easier pace until I can build up to something more.

I have a 3-lb one that looks just like the image, except mine came pre-installed and wrapped in a sturdy plastic cover that I never took off.  I figured it made it easier to clean and less likely to wiggle loose or something.  I think that weight is just enough to be challenging without being overwhelming and I’m glad I settled on that (you can get one anywhere from 1 to 6 lbs in weight).

The great thing about this is that you can read a book, watch TV, listen to music, or many other things with your hands and eyes while you do this.  Talk about getting a workout while multitasking!  Plus, it doesn’t work quite the same as a standard hula hoop you’d have for fun.  While those are hard to get going and keep up, this one has enough momentum that makes it easier to manage.  Just about everyone I’ve read reviews from said they can’t hula hoop for their life, but they can Acu hoop like a pro!  It really is very different when it’s weighted.  Just try weighting a normal hula hoop and you’ll see how much easier it is.

Quirky earbud wrap

I mentioned awhile back a site called Quirky, where people invent fun and cool items that they wish existed.  Well, I ordered a few items and here’s one of them:

Quirky

I created a Google group called “Opps Abound” to share all kinds of useful things I come across and today I decided to email about a site called Quirky.com.  It’s a site that allows you to participate in the invention process, whether you want to submit your own idea or just contribute to others.  You get rewarded for participating by getting credit for the amount of contribution you gave towards the development of a product.  That’s called % influence and that percentage determines how much you earn from the sales of the product once it’s finally complete.

It’s pretty cool because consumers can come up with the products they wish existed and tweak the details, from what material it’s made of, to what it’s called, to what features to include and exclude.  Plus, you get some kickback for helping out and how awesome does it feel to look at a product and be able to say, “I helped create that”?  I love that the inventing process has been reinvented here, and is a very crowd-sourced and social process now.
