I got a wonderful surprise in the mail! I had ordered a phone clutch from Koshi (coming soon) and then discovered they were giving away stylus pens for those who liked their Facebook page. Of course I had to jump on that offer!

Bucky Balls in purple

A long time ago, Panda got me a set of Bucky Balls. I took them to work and played with them often, and then the office got a set that everyone played with. I’m pretty sure that somewhere along the way my Bucky Balls got mixed up with those and eventually were distributed all around the office, stuck to metal cabinets and poles. Lately, I’d heard news of some consumer board trying to get them banned so I wanted to make sure I have a set in case they are forced out of business, plus they were encouraging us to buy to support them. By this time, they’d expanded into so much more than the original set I got – they had colored ones and large ones and even cube ones. I couldn’t resist the purple set since it’s my favorite color, so that’s what I ordered.

I totally went to the CA Academy of Sciences just to see these baby ostriches. So cute!!
A lady walked around and fed the chicks. (Are baby ostriches called chicks?)
One of the babies was a klutz and kept knocking over the food bowl!
This is what I call “parallel eating” – maybe “parallel parked eating” is more appropriate?
For some reason it seemed they had to run from one end to the other – walking was not an option!
They got up so close to the fence but I couldn’t touch them! Sad. 🙁

So recently I went on a vacation to Hawaii and got to go snorkeling. When we got off the boat into the water, there was the option to jump in, so of course I jumped (haha) at the opportunity. Unfortunately, in my quest for that perfect jump shot, I only got a bunch of almosts and a couple of utter fails. I guess not everyone has a knack for awesome timing like me. 😛 If only I could shoot pictures of myself jumping… I guess I could get a tripod, but I was really hoping that Panda could get the shot for me. Oh well, here’s what we ultimately got:
First attempt at the jump shot – got one big splash in the ocean instead.
This is my “so did you get it?” look. And the answer is no. 🙁
I climbed back up after snorkeling for about an hour and we tried again.
After that fail, I came back up under the boat for another try.
Once again, it was “oops I missed it but I got you in the water.”
This time he got me prepping to jump.
Well, this is when I was starting the jump… the closest we’d gotten so far!
Finally, some semblance of me jumping!! While I wish my feet were off the boat, this was good enough. We’d tried half a dozen times already!

This afternoon, Missy decided to make herself at home on the back of my thighs and on my butt while I lay on the ground. She slept in many positions for about two hours before getting up!
Position #1: all curled up.
Position #2: relaxing and letting the limbs dangle.
Position #3: cozying up and tucking in her face.
Using those photos, I decided to make a collage on Diptic that I then posted on Instagram.
Afterwards, I shot a couple more positions that she slept in…
Position #4: all stretched out.
Position #5: the dangle.
Position #5 from ground level.
Finally, she yawned, got up, stretched, and moved to a spot on the floor. I was free to move again!
Cat crime

Yesterday I came downstairs to find both my cats staring intently up at the living room window that’s near the roof.
It turns out that what I thought was a large moth was actually a hummingbird that one of them had caught. It found refuge on the window ledge.
There’s the guilty party who caught that hummingbird and brought it in.
This is the “crime scene,” where Missy probably wrestled with that hummingbird and it managed to fly away.
Here are two of the feathers so you can see how dainty they are. Unfortunately I had to leave for the day and by the time I came back, I found that the hummingbird must have tried to escape again only to get caught. 🙁
