This actually means “INdependent Service”. It’s kind of a rarely used feature that’s generally only activated for deliveries, maintenance, or other unusual operations. Usually it’ll alternate IN and whichever floor the elevator is at.
The elevator will not respond to any button presses in the hall when it’s in independent; the only way to use it is to go find it wherever it’s parked, get in, and hold the button for the floor you want until the doors are fully closed (let it go and they will pop back open immediately). This is to keep someone from inadvertently swiping an elevator that’s been reserved for some other purpose.
Often though, if it’s in independent it’ll be parked at a floor that’s not normally accessible. Tom recently posted..Yes!
Wow, thanks for sharing! I figured it was some sort maintenance thing and found it funny that it said IN, haha. I’ve only ever seen this once!

My philosophy is simple: things change. Therefore, we are all on a lifelong journey of discovery. We should be flexible, questioning, learning, adapting, and growing. Always.
little fat notebook pays homage to Mead's "fat lil' notebooks" that I use to write down any thoughts that strike me throughout the day. I keep one by my side at all times. After all, inspiration waits for no one.
