Luckily, when we went yesterday they were just getting started and we were actually the first to redeem the offer at that location. And here I was afraid they’d run out. 😛 It was so new that the cashier had to read through some instructions on how to handle the offer.

If you’re not a VIP already, they’ll ask for your info at the store to sign up to be one. Pretty great deal for this set of products, good through next weekend. Hop on it now! #LOVELOCCITANE

Escape Monthly August: Paris Box review

Ah, Paris… of course we’d some gourmet items here and leave it to one of these items to have some delays coming through customs! I was also intrigued by the very different guide book included this time around.

Escape Monthly is just under $40 per box (with code for 20% off your subscription – see end of post) and comes with a variety of food, home, skincare items themed around a city. Each box comes with a Moon Handbooks guide for that region. Boxes are sent monthly with no option to skip. They offer a lovely recurring referral commission program.

The items this time around didn’t take up much room, which made me feel like there wasn’t much there, but the value of the items is certainly higher than usual.

Here’s what came in the box:

Rick Steves’ Pocket Paris – This is a nice little guide full of colorful pictures! You might not even have to go to Paris anymore after seeing all the sights from its pages. I certainly plan on visiting Paris time and time again, so this will be a great way to help me discover all that the city (and surrounds) has to offer.

Nuxe Body Scrub & Shower Gel – Well, I didn’t get the scrub and that’s really sad for me since that’s one of my favorite skincare items. Instead, I got two shower gels, so I’ve emailed them to get the scrub sent to me. I didn’t even notice the seal on it when I first tried to open it for a whiff. I’m not a huge fan of almond, but the combination with orange flowers is really great! It smells fantastic and I can’t wait to lather up to the scent in the shower. I’ll be even happier to scrub to this scent!

Institut Karite Paris Perfume Almond and Honey Precious Hand Cream – I’m guessing that this was the product holding things up in customs. It looks luxurious and definitely fancy and Parisian. I’ve certainly enjoyed shea butter hand creams like the ones from L’Occitane, so I’m sure I’ll love this for the winter months. It’s so thick! I love that I got a scent that is rather unique and I hope the almond scent doesn’t get too strong for me after awhile. So far so good – it appears to be a nicely mild and sweet scent.

Edmond Fallot dijon mustard – There’s quite the history behind this little jar. I don’t really eat many items I’d put mustard on, so I’m thinking I might take this to work to put in the communal fridge.

Pierre Biscuiterie French butter cookies – I like that they have two plastic packs in this box, so I don’t have to worry about having to each all of them quickly. These little butter cookies are crisp and rich in flavor. The dried fruit bits offer a bit of a tangy, fragrant kick to the cookies. I’ll be finishing these off with my next pot of tea, which I think will be just fabulous.

les Anis de Flavigny French mints – The light lemon flavor of these mints is lovely. There is a bit of an aftertaste that I can’t quite place – perhaps that’s the anise (no idea what that is). It’s a bit bitter, but not outright so. I think of these more as candies though, since I don’t think they’re really freshening the breath much. Whoa! I just bit into it and definitely got the anise taste – I think they have small bits of it in the center. Now I know these must be related to those star anise dried things you cook with.

Bonne Maman strawberry preserves – I love the little jar this comes in. This was the bonus item for this box. Perfect for traveling with and a 1-2 person portion. I actually got this in another box once upon a time and have yet to open that one. I just don’t get around to eating jams, so perhaps it’s time to consider buying bread or English muffins. I’d also want to get into the habit of eating breakfast, I suppose.

I could have gone for more items, but the hand cream really elevated the feel of this box. Which item do you think is the coolest from this Paris Escape Monthly box? If you want to sign up, try one of these codes (not sure which ones are still active): PARISESCAPE or RICOESCAPE for 20% off the lifetime of your subscription or GIFTESCAPE for 25% off.

For September it’s time to go to Puerto Rico! Fantastic. I’m really excited about that one since I could certainly learn more about that country.

Petit Vour May 2014 review

With a theme of Bonjour Belle!, these items are meant to make you feel beautiful. They’re a great way to recharge and gear up for warmer times ahead.

Petit Vour is $15 per box (or as much as $30 for international subscribers) and comes with vegan beauty, skincare, and other personal care products. Boxes are sent monthly with no option to skip. They offer a referral program that earns you points towards free boxes (email contact@petitvour.com to say I referred you if you sign up!).

petit vour may 2014 box info card with bonjour belle theme contents of petit vour may 2014 box with harvey prince hello fragrance sample, paula's choice resist c15 super booster, aromi lip gloss in rouge, and deep steep hand cream in lavender chamomile

Harvey Prince Hello fragrance – I totally didn’t make the connection at first, but this is the same brand of perfume as the one we got in the last box. Totally different scent that I never would have associated with the other though. Kind of funny that I juuust got this in my Beauty Box 5 – they must be on the promotion prowl or something. I like this scent for how warm and springy it is, but I can barely use up the first sample I got so this will go up for trade.

Paula’s Choice Resist C15 Super Booster – What an adorable little glass bottle this comes in! It feels very luxurious and I can’t wait to see how it does on my dark spots. I’ll be happy if it helps reduce the appearance of some of my acne scars for a more even tone. There’s just a hint of a sweet scent and the fun bright orange color totally makes me think of Vitamin C. How very appropriate.

AROMI Lip Gloss in Rouge – Wow, what a large tube of lip gloss! It’s sort of a fuchsia color and quite a pop of brightness on your lips. I’ve never had a lip gloss with such a strong, vibrant color itself and it looks like I put on lipstick underneath. Why not get the effect of lipstick and lip gloss all in one go? Definitely feels good on my lips and keeps them moisturized and smooth.

Deep Steep Hand Cream in Lavender Chamomile – The branding of this reminds me a lot of Petit Vour itself! They chose an adorable animal, have a single background of color in their packaging, and went for a fanciful design. No wonder they were chosen! The lavender and chamomile combo is nice and relaxing. The cream is very hydrating and felt great on my skin. I’m really happy with the large tube they included, which will last me quite some time. 🙂

I really appreciated the items in this box and felt they were timely and a great mix of products. I’d use them all, which is always a good sign! Which product are you most interested in this month?

Time for the March Beauty Box 5, with the theme of spring cleaning. The focus of this one is to achieve clean, gorgeous skin and I’m loving the items included!

Beauty Box 5 is $12 per box (or as discounted as $99 for an entire year, with an option in between) and comes with 5 cosmetic products. Boxes are sent monthly with no option to skip. You also have the option of buying it as a gift your box to a friend. They offer a referral program that earns you points towards products or boxes.

The month of spring cleaning!

Info on the products with prices of their full sizes.

Jane’s Pick All Natural Soap: They didn’t mark the variation on the sample pack, but based on the pictures on the site, it looks like I got Kind (orange, tangerine, vanilla). It’s a sweeter scent than I would have imagined but I like the lightness of the scent it leaves behind. It foamed up quite well and didn’t dry out my hands! That’s a win in my book.

Tree Hut Shea Body Butter: I got this in a blissmobox awhile ago and I love it! So happy to get another one, since I was just running out of it. The Coconut Lime scent is fabulously refreshing and the texture is amazingly bouncy in a way no other lotion is. I love how it absorbs in the skin and is not greasy at all. Plus, it’s supposed to have anti-aging properties to keep my skin in tip top shape.

Bellapierre Cosmetics Makeup Base: I’m not really sure how to use this since I’m not a makeup user, but I think it can help lighten the redness of my breakouts. I tried a bit and even though it looked a lot lighter than my skin tone, I think it blended in quite well. Could be good to use before I apply my BB cream, which I’ve found rubs off during the day and leaves my face looking redder.

H2O Plus Hand and Nail Cream: I love this brand and this hand cream smells so good. It also absorbs really well and doesn’t have any greasiness. I like that this is for hands and nails, so I don’t need to worry about a separate nail or cuticle cream. It feels great on my hands and keeps them nice and soft. I hope they sell travel sizes, because I’m going to want to bring this around with me!

Swissco Dual-Sided Facial Pad: Yes! These types of facial pads are a new staple for my beauty routine. I currently have one on the shower and one by the sink, but I’m delighted to have another one as they wear out and I want to replace them. I’m starting to be quite a fan of the brand in general, after the exfoliating gloves we got in the Jan box and now this facial pad.

What an awesome box this month! I love skincare products and each of these will be great for my skin. They did a wonderful job with the theme and including quality products that I would absolutely get more of. Which product stands out to you? If you sign up for Beauty Box 5 by 3/31/14, you can even opt to swap the April box for a 60-day 24ClearIt kit (valued at $59.95). It’ll come with five items as outlined below and I’m totally opting for it. Anything to try to get rid of my acne!

Yuzen Spring 2014 edition review

Aww, it’s finally Yuzen time again! I actually got it over a week ago, but with the move and filming the video for them, I kept forgetting to get still pictures. This lovely box for the spring provides a wonderful assortment of products for treating yourself. They smell great and feel wonderful too. I’m ready for all this snow to finally end and feel like spring is on its way! The box I’m showing here came in a red organza bag and has white tissue paper for Valentine’s. If you get this later in the quarter, you’ll probably receive the spring one with a white organza bag and yellow/lime green tissue paper. That’s what you’ll see in the video I filmed for Yuzen’s YouTube channel, which will be up soon. 🙂

Yuzen is $33 per quarter (with boxes sent Feb, May, Aug, and Nov) and comes with around 7 or 8 eco-friendly beauty, skincare, food/snacks, and home products. Boxes are sent quarterly with no option to skip, but you can get one-time gift boxes too. Sometimes there’s a waitlist to get the subscription. They do not offer a referral program.

I see myself taking an enriching bath and then nourishing myself afterward.

Lotus Wei – Infinite Love Mist: So very suitable for the month of love. I actually have this mist already, from way back in the early days of Yuzen. It’s a sweet scent with a hint of tartness, which makes sense since it’s a blend of mandarin, rose, and honey. These are meant to be sprayed around to surround you with the type of scent that will enhance your experience of love for yourself and those around you. You can use it as a pillow mist, spray it as you enter a room, or just spray it around your body. Inhale, relax, and feel the love! Use code YUZEN by 4/30/14 for 20% off at Lotus Wei.

Acure – Radical Resurfacing Facial Treatment: I am pretty excited about this product, if it can help even out my skin! I have acne scars and some random dark spots that plague me, so I’m hoping this will help. I’ve never heard of lemon probiotic or chlorella growth factor, but I do believe plants have powerful abilities to heal and harnessing that certainly sounds good. I’ve heard of natural remedies using lemon to brighten skin, so this probably works similarly. At the very least it feels so hydrating and smells sort of tangy like ginger. I’m loving this as a moisturizer on its own, even though it goes on under one. Use code YUZENLOVE for 25% at Acure.

sumbodysum fizzer: This large block of fizzing fun is in their Coconut Cream scent (though I don’t know if they were sending out other variations too). I tested a small piece and it fizzes very well! Can’t wait to incorporate this into a bath. My skin felt great after using the water with the fizz in it and I loved the light scent it left! It’s not too strong on the coconut, but definitely gives you a tropical feel. I think you’re supposed to use the whole one in the bath, but I’ll probably split it up between a few uses. I’m loving this! Use code Yuzen2 by 5/1/14 for 20% off at sumbody.

sumbody – bath melt: I broke off a quarter of this to use in my bath this weekend and I enjoyed the use of goat milk in their Milky Rich variation. It reminded me of a luxurious bar of chocolate and I was almost tempted to eat it! Inside the foil you’ll find a little piece of paper telling you more about the product and how to use it (they had one for the fizzer too). It took some swirling of the water to get this dissolved and then I could see the oils that were released. It was almost like taking a milk bath, which I’m sure my skin was happy about. Use code Yuzen2 by 5/1/14 for 20% off at sumbody.

SranromCalm Down Hand Cream: Anything inspired by Thailand has got to be good. This lotion is thicker than most, but not quite a body butter. The lemongrass and lime scent is so refreshing and soothing all at once. I love it! It’s very enriching and perfect to combat the dryness that winter brought on. I got a good laugh when I saw the scent name of Calm Down, because I tell Panda to do that all the time. When I showed him, he had a chuckle too and I think I’m going to give him a tube to use. He worries too much and needs some calming! Use code YUZEN20 for 20% at Sranrom.

Sranrom – Compassion candle: I’m really enjoying all the refreshing scents in this box, like this lemongrass, lemon, and spearmint candle! It’s beautifully made and smells wonderful. I used it while soaking in a bath and it was a great calming prescence. It burns cleanly and comes in such a cute little glass container! What a lovely way to enhance the mood in any room. Use code YUZEN20 for 20% at Sranrom.

Balanced GuruBalm Me Up Body Balm: I was surprised at how solid this body balm is when I first opened it. It’s actually quite soft though, and melts with your body heat. It’s a very strong tangy scented product that is super buttery. It’s absolutely wonderful for your elbows, knees, and other rough patches of skin. Just a thin layer took away all trace of dry skin for me. I can see this being perfect for getting through the cold months, though the scent can get overwhelming for me so I can only use a little bit at a time. Use code YUZEN by 4/30/14 for 20% off at Balanced Guru.

ChocoloveCherries & Almonds in Dark Chocolate: I just got my first intro to Chocolove in my Escape Monthly box and what do you know, it’s showing up here too! This flavor is just what you’d want around Valentine’s and I enjoyed it, but I’ve got to admit I’m not a huge fan of anything other than fresh, ripe cherries. Nevertheless, the chocolate is delicious and they have plenty of amazing flavors to choose from! Definitely a brand that I’ll keep my eye out for when I’m out shopping.

essioaromatherapy shower kit: Finally, there’s a discount code for Essio’s aromatherapy for the shower. It’s a little arm contraption that you put on your showerhead and then you swap in little pods with different essential oil aromatherapy scents. I met the founder at a LOHAS event that I was helping Yuzen out at and I liked the idea, but was not at a point in my life where I was treating myself to such luxuries. However, I’m thinking that now might be the time, since I’ve really gotten into skincare and taking care of my body. Thankfully, I have until June to decide on this! Use code YUZEN20 by 6/30/14 for 20% off at Essio.

So there you go, a lovely way to kick off spring by healing your skin from a tough winter’s beating. What did you like most in this box?

*Disclosure: As a super fan, I was invited to be the Yuzen Ambassador to help them spread the word about their brand. I now receive the boxes for free. I was not compensated otherwise and all opinions are my own, irregardless of my relation to Yuzen. I just happen to think they’re awesome (as does everyone else I’ve heard from). 🙂
