365great challenge day 43: booksSo since I haven’t had internet access since yesterday morning, I’ve spent much of the past two days engulfed in some books I borrowed from the library. It was a nice break from all the technology-driven things I usually do and I was reminded of my childhood, which I spent buried in books. My tastes started off with fictional stories full of wonderful characters and unbelievable scenarios. As I grew older, I took a break from reading and have since leaned towards non-fiction that I can learn from and apply towards my life. Whatever your preferences may be, there are a vast number of books available for just about any subject your heart desires. What a great way to share and spread information or anecdotes or memories.

365great challenge day 42: the interwebsSince about 11:30 am, our house has been internetless. This was not a big deal until the AT&T technician came in at 7:30 pm to say that while he had done all he could, a different tech had to come fix an issue out in the street. So tonight we have no internet for our laptops and it makes me appreciate all the time I spend on there and everything it allows me to accomplish. Luckily, I’ve still got my phone, but it’s more of a “skeleton crew” kinda thing where I’m only doing the basics and nothing else. So here’s to the internet! It connects in ways we sometimes forget and is a great tool.

365great challenge day 41: facial wipesI only recently started using facial wipes and I wish I had gotten into them sooner! They are a fantastic way to refresh your face during the day or even help wipe off everything at the end of the night. I’ve always hated the “water dribbling down your arms” part of washing my face, so this is a great way to “wash” my face without all that messiness. Plus, you can use it on the go – even better. For me, it started with the samples of La Fresh wipes that I got in a Yuzen box. I probably wouldn’t have tried them otherwise, but hey, I had samples already… and so I did, and loved how refreshing it felt. I then went on the buy the full packs, which I pull out every now and then when the day’s really been wearing on me. A simple, easy, effective way to freshen up? That’s great. 🙂

365great challenge day 39: natureIt’s Earth Day! I think we should take this time to think about how our actions are affecting our planet so we can make changes for the better. Things will never be perfect, but we can always strive for incremental improvement. And while we’re thinking of this great place called Earth, let’s take a moment to appreciate nature! I mean, I think that’s what makes much of our world so beautiful – who doesn’t love a good sunset or gorgeous landscape? It’s pleasing to the eyes and very calming too. Plus, nature is great at renewing itself; we could learn a lesson or two. There’s wisdom in our world and that’s pretty great.

365great challenge day 38: 1 second everydayI’ve officially completed a full month’s worth of 1SE clips! I found out about this fun project through Kickstarter, where I backed it and got to download it from the App Store when it launched. I was a bit late to the game (oops) and didn’t redeem my copy for quite awhile, but I finally got around to it and I’ve been having a blast! It’s so entertaining to watch little 1-second clips of days gone by and remember what was happening in that moment. For the most part, it only holds meaning for me, but it’s so meaningful.

If you’ve ever done a photo a day sort of project, you sort of know what I’m talking about. But the added dimensions of video make it even more powerful and it’s a fabulous way to look back on your life. You’ve seriously got to try it! Now you don’t have to rely on still visuals solely to share your story and record those memories. You can incorporate motion and sound, which are very enriching. I’ve had video clips that I chose purely for the sound that it had captured. What a fun, simple way to capture snippets of your life. And the app makes it super easy to clip and compile. It’s great!!

365great challenge day 37: terrariumsTerrariums are a great way to spruce up a space with a little bit of mother nature! They generally come in pretty cool containers/bowls/tanks, which makes them sort of artsy too. They’re usually filled with succulents, moss, pebbles, soil, and maybe a few cute “garnishes” like glass or mini figurines. You can make your own or get them ready-made and it’s a great way to boost the oxygen level indoors and provide better quality air (if it’s an open one). They generally don’t need much maintenance, so it’s pretty easy to care for them! Whether on your desk, in your kitchen, or on your coffee table, they can fit into many styles of decor. This versatile and eye-pleasing display is great for anyone into design, gardening, or the good old outdoors.

365great challenge day 36: plasma ballsThese are such fun toys! I mean, how trippy is it to put your finger on there and watch as it responds to your touch? Even without touching the plasma ball, the constantly moving “lightning bolts” extending out is pretty cool to watch. If you’ve never played with one of these, you’re definitely missing out. It’s like having a magic ball that follows your every move in beautiful hues of pinks, purple, blue, and white. It’s a fun scientific gadget that is sure to please! I’ve got one as a desk toy that actually operates as a USB splitter – practical and pretty in one! A cool gizmo that brings science alive in such a fun way is truly great.

365great challenge day 35: lushI first came across LUSH when I was studying abroad in England. It was love at first smell! I mean, so many of their amazing products look so good you just want to eat them. Plus, they smell lovely and they’re made from natural ingredients. Add to that the fresh and handmade factor and I was totally sold (in theory – I was still to cheap to actually buy anything, much as I wanted). After returning to the US, I sorely regretted not getting that charcoal face soap I’d been eyeing.

A few years later, I was thrilled when they finally opened up shop in the LA area! This time I finally got to use some of their products and it’s always so fun since it feels like something you could just cook up in your own kitchen. Lately I got into solid shampoos and of course, LUSH has those too. I’ve got a lovely bar of that at home that I’ve been using and it’s perfect for travel. LUSH is one of the earlier eco-friendly, socially responsible brands I’d heard of and it still retains a special place in my memories. Their products are pretty great!

365great Day 34: spring

365great challenge day 34: springThis year, spring has been elusive. When flowers should have been budding and people should have been admiring the lovely cherry blossoms of our capitol, we were stuck with mini snow/slush/rain storm after storm. Cold front this, wacky pressure that, and no temperatures over 60-something. Over here on the west coast, at least the LA area, high winds have briskly whisked away our hopes for a nice warm day. What’s going on?!

I think just about everyone looks forward to spring – the renewal, the budding flowers, the warm air, the change of wardrobe, maybe even some cleaning! The world around us becomes more active and the weather gets warmer so we can shed those layers. Colors come back and beauty is everywhere – check out how amazing this flower in my yard looks! Playing outside becomes more accessible and everything just seems so alive. What a great feeling that is!

365great Day 33: dry erase boards

Dry erase boards are such a useful tool! It’s a great way to keep an ongoing list of things to do, groceries to buy, and other items that recur. Or, it’s just a fun way to doodle on a cool medium, then wipe it all away. Whatever you choose to do with it, they can be immensely useful since they’re reusable time and time again, unlike writing on paper. Plus, they wipe easily so you can truly start with a clean slate each time.

365great challenge day 33: dry erase boardsI found this awesome little Crayola board at Best Buy right when I was in need of a small dry erase board I could use at my desk! It was on sale and we had free money to use too, so I just had to get it. I love that this one uses crayons – how completely different from the markers I’m used to! These babies don’t smell and won’t wipe off accidentally, which are the two downsides to dry erase markers… which means they’re basically all pros, no cons! I love that the board is two-sided and in black or white. A black “white board” now that’s funny. 🙂 And for the practical purposes it serves in addition to the fun/cool/interesting factor, what isn’t great about a dry erase board?
