365great challenge day 53: tea
It’s a bit chilly and dreary today and nothing comforts me more than a nice cup of tea. Not only is it great for your health, but there are so many tasty options to choose from! I prefer loose leaf teas or tea bags with full leaves (not that crushed stuff). You get the best flavor that way and there’s something rather rewarding about watching tea leaves unfurl. I feel more connected to my drink that way. Cupping a piping hot mug of freshly brewed tea is almost healing in itself. Drinking the tea enhances that experience and inhaling the gentle scent brings a smile to my face. It’s so soothing and relaxing to drink tea – you should really take a moment for yourself each time and connect with some inner peace. A drink that can bring on tranquility like that is pretty great.

365great challenge day 52: solid shampooI discovered solid shampoo on a vacation at Myrtle Beach. A very helpful sales clerk was showing me a bunch of the cool products they had in their store and solid shampoos and conditioners were one of them. I really loved the idea of something that eliminates the water from the product so you add it in as necessary (like powder detergent vs. liquid). It saves a ton of space! Maybe even water too, depending on how you use it. Plus, with solid shampoos, you no longer have to find those 3-oz containers to put your shampoo in when you travel (nor do you need to hoard hotel shampoos that you could use instead). After happily using up that first bar, I decided to try out this LUSH one that’s pretty good as well. I’d love to get more of the original one though! Either way, not having to worry about travel restrictions is pretty great.

365great challenge day 51: sweatpants with pocketsOk, this seems like a totally random thing, but seriously, I absolutely adore the two pairs of sweatpants I have that have pockets. In fact, I don’t wear my other sweats anymore because of them. After all, who wants to sit around with things laying nearby that you may forget to bring with you when you get up? Usually it’s just my phone and a lip balm that I like to keep handy, and it’s such a convenience to stick them in my pockets rather than remembering to carry them with me when I move around. I feel the same about sweatshirts and hoodies that don’t have pockets, but I find the pants pockets are more useful then the shirt/jacket pockets. For whatever reason, things tend to fall out of the pockets of my jackets – perhaps they’re too small. Sometimes, something as simple as pockets can be great.

365great challenge day 50: loveLove is a powerful emotion that can amplify other emotions. Suddenly the world is rosier, everything is worthwhile, and smiling to yourself becomes a common occurrence. Of course, it can also cause great jealousy, even rage when those you love have hurt you or been hurt. Still, overall love is an extremely positive experience and state of being. Most of the people in the world strive to love and be loved, for good reason. For me, I am just glad every day I have those who love me and who I love. My emotional well-being is so much better because of my loved ones. We may have our ups and downs, but we always get through tough times and it is invaluable to me knowing that I have them by my side. The feeling of love is truly uplifting and great!

365great challenge day 49: salt water poolsCan some water be more “watery” than others? I don’t know how else to describe a salt water pool, but I swear the water feels more slippery than usual. It’s a really nice feeling, to have the water glide against your skin so effortlessly. Plus, it’s also nice to not have the chlorine smell hanging around you – a problem I had for years as a swimmer! There’s just something so very luxurious-feeling about a salt water pool and who doesn’t want to swim around luxuriously? It’s a great experience to have.

365great challenge day 47: burt's bees res-q ointmentI first learned about this product from a cousin in China, actually. Apparently it’s all the rage with her friends. And truly, Burt’s Bees Res-Q Ointment is a hidden gem of a product. If it weren’t for my cousin’s obsession, I never would have thought to give it a try – it seems to be just a rub-on insect repellent (which isn’t all that exciting). But oh boy, is that wrong! In fact, this Res-Q Ointment is like a miracle worker for just about any sort of skin irritation you might get, including insect bites, bruises, cuts, scrapes, rashes, and the like.

I get these red bumps from sensitivity when my hands get extra cold and dry, which is soothed and healed with this balm. I’ve had bruises that itch that I used the Res-Q Ointment on so I wouldn’t scratch them. It’s even helped me with the occasional cut or scrape, making the healing process faster and far less uncomfortable. I mean, it’s amazing all the things that one little balm can do. Plus, you barely need any to cover your irritation, so a small tub will last a really long time. This is perfect for kids or those of us who are still klutzy (I feel ya). Try it! It really is great.

365great challenge day 46: grazeGraze hasn’t been available in the US for long, but it’s quite popular! At the moment it’s invite-only (and each person only gets to invite one other) so it’s tough to get in. Once you do, you get to set up weekly, fortnightly, or monthly deliveries of delicious little snack packets! Each is carefully created to be nutritious and a single serving size. These are great for eating a healthier diet and portion control (which most people probably struggle with). They’re constantly coming up with new recipes and you get to decide which ones you’re willing to try, which ones you like and want more of, which ones you LOVE and want a lot, or which ones you’d like to “trash” and never get again. You can change your ratings for the snacks at any time as your tastes change too. The flexibility, the ease of snacking without worry, and the tasty treats sent to your door make for a really great service!

365great challenge day 45: gogobotAfter an awesome day out the Gogobot way, I just had to make them today’s 365great. Not only are they an amazingly useful website where you can get travel advice and read user reviews, they are a vibrant community of fantastic folks. Plus, the company generously rewards those who contribute to the site, whether it’s with great events like the one today, or super cool swag throughout your interactions. It’s such a fun place to share your reviews of places and ask for suggestions to your travel questions. The people who contribute to Gogobot are so chill and just the kind of people you’d want to hang out with. What’s not to love? Everything they do is great!

365great Day 44: pickles

365great challenge day 44: picklesI’ve always loved pickles. Maybe it’s a genetic thing? My parents seem to like them too, but not in the crazy scarf-them-down way that I do. There’s something about the salty, sour, crisp, juiciness that is delightful to me. I love the way they crunch and add a kick to whatever you eat them with (or without). My favorite is munching on giant kosher dills straight up. I don’t need anything to go with them. However, I do often enjoy a bowl of Top Ramen in chicken flavor with them whenever I need a more filling snack. Depending on my mood, sometimes I crave hamburger slice pickles and other times I crave wedges.

I’m actually pretty picky about my pickles and have very specific requirements – they must be a sort of yellowish green on the inside (not those weird white ones) and they must have maximum crunch (some just don’t have the right crunching feeling). Luckily, the Ralph’s brand offers such pickles, so I can always get them for a decent price. I’ve always loved the pickle slices offered at Quizno’s and sometimes even piled up a small cup’s worth to eat with my sandwich. What can I say? To me, they just taste so great.
