(The) Cat Chronicles

I was organizing my pictures the other day when I came to realize that I have far too many cat photos. Not that I’m sick of them, but for a blog like this where I want to have a good variety of subjects/topics, I don’t have enough real estate to dedicate to my cats. So, for that reason, I’ve decided to post up pictures of my cats over on Tumblr. Maybe nobody will ever go look at them, but at least I have an outlet somewhere where I can post up pictures of all things cat.

After all, I’m really blogging for myself a lot of the time – for my unwavering desire to document and chronicle things.  So here’s to my cats!  And if you like them too, go follow the cat chronicles and get your daily dose of cuteness. 🙂  You’ll also find them on my corresponding Pinterest board.  I’ll still be posting some pictures and videos of my cats here, since they are an important part of my life that I like to share. However, there’s just so much cat-centric content that I want to put out there that it really needs its own channel.

Hungry cats

Around dinnertime, the cats are sure to let you know they’re ready to be fed. Listen to the forlorn little meow that Missy uses to guilt you into feeding her early!

Missy loves snuggling under the covers! Nevermind how hot it gets or how hard it is to breathe sometimes. 😛

Love, Missy (& sometimes Molly)

Every single day that I’m with my cats, my heartstrings get their exercise.  The way that they just plop down on me and purr contentedly would make anyone smile.  No matter how many times I see them sleeping, playing, or doing other cute things, each time is special.  Missy is especially loving and comes to nap by me a few times a day.  She gets into some crazy positions that don’t seem comfortable at all, but she appears to love twisting in weird shapes.  It makes me want to take pictures of her all day long.  Molly’s taken some time to warm up to me, but lately she’s been quite cuddly too, and purrs nonstop when she’s in a good mood.  Both of them bring so much joy to my life!

In honor of them, I just had to put together a collage of some of their wonderful pictures.  Having pets is truly one of the most rewarding things and I’m particular to cats because they’re adorable yet not needy and they don’t smell (sorry dogs).  It’s really true that they help lower your blood pressure – they keep me calm and happy even when I’m going through a tough time.  How could you look into those faces as they adore you and not feel your heart open to them?

iPhone camera blur

Yesterday, my iPhone’s camera started acting up and wouldn’t properly focus. The result was what you might call “soft focus.”

I first noticed it when trying to take pictures of Missy being cute (and trying to take over my laptop).

Subjects within about 6-8 inches came into focus, but anything further got blurry, like the background here.

After testing in daylight and various conditions, I confirmed that it wasn’t any number of factors – just a camera lens having issues.

You know what makes me happy?  My adorable cats, sleeping the day away.  It brings serenity to my life. 🙂

Sometimes when Missy’s sleeping really soundly, she’ll twitch or move like she’s running or (like in this case) eating.

Drowsy positions

Hehe, Missy sleeps in such funny positions throughout the day.  Sometimes it’s downright baffling that she finds it comfortable like that.

Molly refuses to drink out of a normal bowl, so we have to fill up the sink for her a few times a day and let her play around like this:

Molly in one of her calmer moods.

Ok so I’ve got this cat, her name is Molly.  She’s like 13 years old and I’ve had her for about a year and a half.  When I saw her at the shelter, she was curled up on a nice bed and didn’t really move, so I figured she’d be a fun lap pet.  When we brought her home, the first week or so I was afraid that she was going to die just like that – she wouldn’t eat, she wouldn’t drink, and she barely moved.  We took her for her free checkup and the vet said that this and that might be wrong with her… my mom stood firm in her belief that we’re just giving Molly a nice home to live out her life and we won’t spend excess money to save her from this and that disease.  I was super sad but wasn’t about to shell out the money myself so we decided to just see how it went.

I think about 10 days in is when Molly started to move around.  She explored the house and I even caught her drinking from the toilet (aha! so she wasn’t dying of thirst).  Soon enough, she was as spry as any cat and even went around the house acting like she built it, owned it, and ran it.  While I was happy that she was totally fine and actually quite active, I discovered that she actually doesn’t like being held.  So much for my lap cat idea.  Sometimes she gets into these terrible moods, where she’ll growl at you for no reason.  She’ll get mad because you walked by, because she walked by you, because you did this or didn’t do that, etc.  I didn’t want to encourage this behavior, so whenever she got grumpy, I’d keep pushing.  If she didn’t want me touching her I’d hug her.  Sometimes I’d growl with her, or give her a stern finger.  Unfortunately, this hasn’t worked and I think I’ve figured it out – we’re both super stubborn.

The more you push, the more I push back (and the more you push back).  So, our little battles escalate until Molly gets so upset that she attacks or runs away.  I can’t help it though; nothing irritates me more than backing down when she’s the one initiating the negativity.  I was hoping to train her to see that when she got mad, I didn’t leave her alone, so trying to scare me wouldn’t work.  But it seems that all she sees is that she’s not happy and I’m annoying.  It’s a pity!  I’ve never tried to start a fight with her, but that seems to be how it all ends up.  And that’s what stubbornness can get you.

Sleeping ritual

Missy loves to massage me, the pillow, or Rupert right before she settles down for a nap. It’s become a ritual for us, kind of like when a dog spins in circles to get into position for rest. She always purrs gently, kneads at something cushy, and sticks her nose into whatever she’s massaging, hehe. She’ll massage anything that’s soft and squishy!
